Nightlife in India
Kerala
Kerala is a vibrant state, full of color
and life. With world’s best beaches, meandering rivers,
rich history, temples and architectural magnificence,
most spectacular wild life forests, tea and spice
plantations, ayurvedic heritage and mouth watering
cuisines, Kerala has a lot to offer to its visitors. Yet
when compared to other states in India, Kerala offers
limited nightlife activities. Bigger cities like
Thiruvananthpuram, Cochin and Kovalam offer the best
range of nighttime activities. Where as an old city like
Kozhikode (calicut) doesn’t disappoint you either.
Though the choices are limited, still here you will find
some sea facing hotels, which offers certain amount of
nightlife and have modern bars, attached to them and
also offers good seafood. There are little shops where
one can taste 'toddy’, the locally brewed alcohol from
coconut tree. But it is always recommended to enter into
a bar and go for drinking if you know the local people
well and rely on them. Many 5 star and 4 star hotels
have their own bars and pubs, discs. Kerala is an
ancient state with rich cultural heritage. You can also
experience the colorful, rhythmical Kathakali (the
ancient dance form of Kerala) at a traditional Kathakali
venue.
Kolkata
Kolkata is a vibrant city, full of color and life.It offers
the best range of nighttime activities.
Kolkata is a big, sophisticated city with a broad array of evening
entertainment on offer from the swish to the sleazy. Nightlife in Kolkata
is popped with energy and excitement. There are many bars in restaurants
around Park Street, Most nightclubs have a mix of music styles, with
variations of reggae, blues, disco, hip hop, trance, Hindi pop and remixed
bhangra (Punjabi dance music). Dress code for hotel nightclubs is strictly
smart casual; single males are often denied entry unless they are staying
at the hotel in which the nightclub is located.
Kolkata's nightspots are a great place to unwind in. The nocturnal
activities take a full blast at midnight in the city. The pubs, bars,
coffee shops and discotheques come to life. There are drinks, glittering
neon, signboards and lots of noise. The dance floor rumbles and the music
flows as more and more people come to these places. The best liquours and
cocktails unfold under the roof of these places. Muscles move and heart
thumps with the beats produced by massive amplifiers. It is hard to define
such feelings one experiences at these places. An appropriate term would
be like expressing oneself or maybe living life to its full.
The city also has many art and culture centers wherein performances are
regularly hosted. The city as such caters to both the materialistic as
well the aesthetic parts of its population. Cultural shows, Classical
music, drama and more are organized at such places. The Sangeet Research
Academy at Tollygunge in South Kolkata and close to the school organizes
Indian Classical music recitals on weekdays in the evenings.
